TEHRATHUM, NOVEMBER 15

Less than a week away from the federal and provincial elections, candidates of the House of Representatives and province assemblies are making final efforts to convince voters.

The candidates visit the voters' farmlands, doorsteps and public spaces and hold gatherings. As the farmers are busy harvesting paddy, so are candidates seeking voters for the November 20 elections.

But, the farmers are more worried about harvesting paddy. Srijana Basnet, a local from Okhre village in Chhathar Rural Municipality, said the leaders visited her seeking vote but she was busy harvesting paddy and millet.

Most candidates have pledged to troubleshoot the issues of voters if they win elections. However, public participation is not as in earlier elections despite candidates' aggressive publicity campaigns and home visits.

There is a single constituency in HoR and two in provincial assembly in Tehrathum district. Candidate of Nepali Congress for HoR Sita Gurung has sought votes promising development and prosperity, while CPN-UML candidate Bijay Subba has made the district's development and facilitating the lawmaking process for citizens' rights his election agendas.

In the past elections, the CPN-UML had won all seats of the HoR and Provincial Assembly in Tehrathum district, but the left-democratic alliance is a stumbling block for the UML this time.

According to the District Election Office, a total of 10 candidates including an independent candidate are vying for the HoR elections where the number of voters is almost 72,000.
