Candidates selection incomplete in Bara

Bara, June 11

Major political parties in Bara are struggling to nominate their candidates in 15 local levels for phase II civic polls slated for June 28.

The Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal and CPN-Maoist Centre have sought a few days more to finalise their candidates saying there are a large number of aspirants in the district.

More than two dozen leaders are aspiring to become party candidates for the mayoral post from the NC in kalaiya and Jitpusimara sub-metropolitan cities of the district.

Vying for the mayoral candidacy in Jitpusimara Sub-metropolis are NC’s former lawmaker Shovakar Parajuli, mahasamiti member Krishnabrata Singh, Municipal President Shyambabu Gupta and entrepreneur Om Krishna Karki.

UML district committee has forwarded the names of Krishna Paudel, Dev Narayan Chaudhary, Bharat Khadka and Manoj Paudel as their mayoral candidates at the sub-metropolis among a dozen other names.

CPN-Maoist Centre central committee member Rajan Paudel is likely to get the party’s mayoral ticket to contest the polls.

In Kalaiya Sub-metropolis, around a dozen leaders have shown their interest to contest the polls as mayoral candidate from the NC.

From the UML, Binod Sah, Yam Samiulla, Dhruba Yadav and Suresh Modak are seeking party ticket for the mayoral post.

Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal has Prakash Chaulagain, Rambabu Kumar Yadav, Shivnath Patel, and Binod Barai as mayoral candidate in Kalaiya.

CPN-Maoist Centre said that it was mulling over picking one out of Dhuri Sah, Umesh Yadav and Mukesh Sah for the mayoral post.

Meanwhile, as election campaigning gains momentum, all parties claim they will secure victory in the two sub-metropolis, four municipalities and nine rural municipalities of the district.

Party leaders from the NC, UML and CPN-MC are lobbying with provincial and central party leadership to secure mayoral ticket in Nijgadh, Kolhabi, Mahagadhimai and Simraungadh municipalities. Parties are confident that phase II civic polls will be held on the slated date.
