Case filed against policeman for allegedly throwing acid on woman

CHITWAN: A case under the attempt to murder has been registered against the Sub-Inspector of Police Ram Chandra Khaniya for his involvement in an acid-attack at the Chitwan District Police Office today.

Khaniya (51) had allegedly thrown acid on Kalpana Shrestha (28), who is the wife of a Nepal Army soldier, on Sunday afternoon.

“As mentioned in the FIR, Khaniya threw the acid with an aim to kill the victim,” informed DSP Prabhu Prasad Dhakal at the Chitwan DPO.

Acid was thrown over Kalpana, a permanent resident of Ghairung-4 in Gorkha and currently residing in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-4, near her rented room at Tri Chok in the metropolis.

Her husband, Kisaan Shrestha (30) had filed the case.

Kalpana has sustained injuries on her ears, eyes, chest and legs. She is being treated at Bharatpur Hospital.

According to Kalpana, Khaniya had been following her everywhere she went. “Khaniya used to follow me, telephone me and threaten to kill me. I, with my husband, had even filed a case earlier where he was suspended for six months. But, he still did not stop such behaviour.”

“He started following me from Buddha Chok in Bharatpur on the way home from work. He came to me and threatened to kill me with bricks at Dipendra Chok. I got scared and took a cab home,” narrated Kalpana.

“When I got off the cab, Khaniya, who was still following me, pulled my bag and threw it away. When I went to pick my bag, he threw acid on me,” she added. “The locals helped me get here after the incident.”

According to DSP Dhakal, the suspect has been remanded to custody for further investigation.
