Casino Shangri-La workers demand their reinstatement
KATHMANDU: The workers of Casino Shangri-La have demanded their reinstatement with due compensation.
According to Coordinator of the Victim Struggle Committee Arbind Jha, proprietor of the casino, Prasiddha Raj Pandey, is yet to provide any benefits as per the Labour Act,2048 (1992) to as many as 467 workers when he sold the casino some two years ago.
At a news conference held in the capital city on Saturday, Jha also asked the casino management to compensate and reinstate the employees, arguing that they were laid off against the Labour Act.
On the occasion, lawmaker Binod Shrestha said the casino should have handed over its management ownership only after considering the situation of the workers adding that the issue would be raised in the meeting of the International Relations and Labour Committee of the Legislature Parliament.
Member of the struggle committee Pushkar Nath Yogi claimed that a deal was made to hire the same employees when the management of the casino was handed to the Star Management of Malaysia but it could not happen as the leaders of trade unions gobbled up a hefty amount from the hotel management.
