Chand-led CPN cadres running extortion drive in Panchthar

Phidim, April 20

It has been reported that Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal has started terrorising people’s representatives demanding money in Panchthar district of late.

The activists of the party are accused of issuing threat to mayors, deputy mayors, rural municipality chairpersons, deputy chairpersons, ward chairpersons and administrative officers of the district in bid to extort money from them.

The activists of the Chand-led communist party demanded at least one per cent to four per cent of the total budget that was released for Falgunanda and Miklajong rural municipalities in donation from the people’s representatives over phone.

“They use different mobile numbers to ask for donation. The caller said that he was a central member of the Communist Party of Nepal,” said the ward chairperson of Falgunanda Rural Municipality. He said they had demanded at least one to four per cent of the total budget allotted for the rural municipality issuing a life threat.

Chief District Officer of Panchthar Prakash Chandra Adhikari expressed his ignorance about the matter, but pledged to take necessary action, if necessary.
