Chand-led group’s tactic outdated: Dahal

Pokhara, March 11

Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Co-chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal today clarified that it was no longer possible to bring about desired political change by simply falling back on the people’s revolution era tactics.

Speaking at a press conference organised by Press Organisation Nepal in Pokhara today, Dahal accused Netra Bikram Chand of Communist Party of Nepal of trying to mimic the Maoist revolution of the past.

“He’s a man I mentored and know well. Whatever he’s doing now reminds me of the revolution, but such a reversion to revolution era strategies has become anachronistic now, which won’t land us anywhere,” he said.

“It’s 2019, not the 90s, so hoping to succeed in this changed context by taking a leaf from the book of the Maoist revolution doesn’t make sense,” he added.

Further, Dahal vowed that the government was otherwise ready to control violent activities of the Chand-led party if it didn’t shun violence. “As the government has a policy of talking to all groups, his (Chand’s) party also should come to join mainstream politics through dialogue. There is no option to it.”

Dahal claimed the agreement struck with CK Raut and his group by the government was in line with the spirit of the constitution. “The deal with Raut is not as it has been talked about, so let’s not doubt it,” he said, vowing that the government would take action against him if he didn’t honour the deal and started speaking without restraint. Yet on a different note, the NCP (NCP) co-chair clarified there was no dispute over the unification of the party and claimed that the unification process would be over in a few days.
