Dang, May 10
Police arrested a cadre of the banned Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal from Sallabot of Chaurhajari Municipality, West Rukum, today.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sumit Khadka said police had to open two rounds of fire in the air in course of arresting Dilliraj Sharma, who is CPN-aligned Youth Association West Rukum district chair. A police constable was injured while nabbing Sharma. “While police personnel were chasing Sharma, he hurled a boulder at them. The injured constable is undergoing treatment at a local health facility,” said DSP Khadka.
According to DSP Khadka, police had launched a manhunt to nab Sharma after they received a complaint that he was indulging in extortion and obstructing development works. “We had increased surveillance based on a tip-off that Sharma was at Chaurhajari area,” DSP Khadka said.
Sharma has been remanded to custody at the District Police Office. “A case will be filed at district court against Sharma and action will be taken accordingly,” said DSP Khadka.
