'Cheap' medicines taking toll on Nawalparasi locals

NAWALPARASI: Health professionals have warned that the locals residing in the Nepal-India border areas in Nawalparasi district have put their lives at risk by consuming medicines prescribed by unqualified medical professionals in bordering towns of India.

Most of the people who visit the bordering town of India from treatment are lured to Indian markets as they can buy lots of medicines at a cheap price and feel good after consumption of the medicine.

However, a recent health camp set up by the Bajradal Battalion of Nepal Army in Parasi found that the most of the patients visiting the camp were found to have serious long-term heath problems apparently due to wrong medicine consumption.

According to Dr. Rabindra Jung Raymajhi, Medical Officer of Nepal Army, the consumption of Indian medicines could put their life at risk for the long run.

Meanwhile, he added that most of the locals were assured that the consumption of many medicines would cure their diseases.

Lieutenant Colonel Purna Parsad Dhakal said the military doctors had distributed free medicines in the camp.

They would organise such camps in other parts of the district as well, he revealed.
