Chequered past
DHANGADI: Pradip Rawal, who was recently arrested from Kathmandu in connection with the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur, was involved in cases of drug smuggling and street brawls, according to Kanchanpur police.
According to Kanchanpur District Police Office Investigation Officer Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishnaraj Ojha, Rawal’s arrest follows continuous surveillance. “Pradip is among 400 others that police arrested, interrogated and freed in connection with the rape and murder case. Even after being released, they’re under our watch,” Ojha said.
“The same persons can be arrested again and again. There are chances that one of those arrested and released after interrogation can turn out to be guilty later,” the DSP said. He added that on Wednesday nine persons were interrogated in connection with the case and released.
