CEC asks prime minister to announce NA poll date
Kathmandu, December 29
Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad today asked Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to announce date of National Assembly election.
EC officials met the PM after President Bidhya Devi Bhandari issued the National Assembly Election Ordinance.
During the meeting held in Baluwatar, the PM told EC officials that the government would announce NA poll date within a few days after consulting it.
According to a press release issued by EC Spokesperson Dinesh Kumar Ghimire, CEC Yadav also reminded the PM that provincial assembly members could not cast vote in NA election without taking the oath of office and secrecy from provincial governors.
Due to differences among parties, the government has not yet appointed governors.
PM Deuba’s senior media expert Govinda Pariyar told THT: “The PM told EC officials that the government would appoint governors within a few days and announce poll date soon.”
EC commissioners Ila Sharma, Narendra Dahal, Ishwori Prasad Paudel and Sudhir Kumar Shah and EC Secretary Begendra Raj Sharma Paudel were present in meeting with the PM.
