China to provide Chinese Yuan 9 mln for Nepal polls

KATHMANDU: China will provide a support worth Chinese Yuan 9 million to Nepal for the local level elections scheduled for May 14.

Chinese President Xi Jinping made the commitment to the Nepali side during a meeting with Nepal's visiting Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Beijing today, the Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported.

In the meeting held at the Great Hall of the People, Prime Minister Dahal asked China to reopen the Tatopani border point, which was closed in the wake of the April 2015 Nepal earthquake.

In response, the Chinese President told the Nepali Prime Minister that he and his government were serious about opening Tatopani and other border points, the report said.

The leaders also held discussion on construction of a railway line in Nepal with the Chinese investment.

The meeting had lasted for around 35 minutes, according to the report.

After addressing the Boao Forum for Asia's annual conference in Boao, Prime Minister Dahal had flown to Beijing on April 25.

Dahal, who embarked on China visit on March 24, is scheduled to return home on March 29.
