Chitwan DDC chief, deputy’s houses bombed

Chitwan, April 5:

Maoists blasted bombs at the houses of DDC chairman and deputy chairman this evening.

According to DDC chairman Bishnu Wagle, a fire following the explosion destroyed his two-storeyed house at Birendranagar town in Patihani VDC-2. The Maoists also looted a motorcycle, one television set and other valuable metals and utensils. Another explosion at the same time in the house of deputy DDC chairman Babu Ram Thapa destroyed his four-room building in Parvatipur VDC-5. Local said 50 muris of paddy was destroyed in the fire.

The Maoists forced family members out before detonating the bombs. The fire was raging in the houses till late night.

Meanwhile, a report from Dharan said the Maoists destroyed a tower of the Nepal Telecommunication Corporation at Barahakshetra VDC in Sunsari district yesterday night. About 100 Maoists attacked the tower, causing damage to a two-room building. Communication service has disrupted following the blast. The tower was installed nine months ago. Maoists have claimed responsibility for the blast.
