CIAA files graft case against 9
KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Sunday filed a corruption case at the Special Court against nine persons.
Of those booked, seven are former officials of the Darchula District Sports Development Committee and two are engineers from the District Technical Office.
The CIAA said the seven officials presented fake bills claiming that the Sports Development Committee constructed a covered hall while the hall was not constructed.
Likewise, the engineers prepared a report about the construction without monitoring its status, the anti-corruption constitutional body said in a statement today.
Those booked include former coordinators of the Sports Development Committee Manju Bam and Kalyan Singh Dhami; its former members Bhupendra Raj Awasthi, Man Singh BK, Shyam Raj Awasthi, Dan Singh Niraula and Harish Chandra Bhatta. Likewise, the engineer duo Shekhar Chandra Badu and Madan Raj Joshi were also booked.
The Commission said they embezzled various amounts from the fiscal year 2010/11 to 2012/13 from the National Sports Council.
The CIAA has sought action against seven former officials as per Section 8(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002 and against two engineers as per Section 19(2) of the same Act.
