CIAA flooded with graft complaints in far-west

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority said that it was receiving growing number of complaints against corruption and irregularities in far-western districts of the country.

While most complaints registered at the CIAA in the past were related to the education sector, the complaints it has received so far this fiscal are against people’s representatives and local levels. Locals have accused them of corruption.

As per the data maintained by the CIAA, it received 350 complaints from the Far-west Province, which comprises nine districts. Of those complaints, 34 per cent are related to corruption at local levels.

CIAA said it received 28 complaints from Kailaki, 19 from Kanchanpur, 15 from Darchula, 13 from Achham, 12 from Bajhang, 10 from Baitadi, seven each from Dadeldhura and Doti and two from Bajura.

Information Officer at CIAA, Rajan Nepal said people’s representatives, while forming the consumers’ committees, included their relatives illegally and purchased various unnecessary things.
