CIAA for more transport offices in Valley
Kathmandu, May 28:
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today directed the
Ministry of Labour and Transport Management and the Department of Labour and Employment Promotion to set up at least three transport offices in the Kathmandu Valley for the regulation of the transport sector.
The CIAA directed the authorities concerned to resolve all problems dogging the sector, noting that the Transport Management Office alone cannot regulate chaotic traffic caused by an increase in the number of vehicles plying the valley.
The CIAA issued the directive after a thorough investigation into the issue and discussions between the officials concerned.
A single office based in the Kathmandu valley cannot issue driving licences promptly and keep records systematically, the CIAA said, adding that the establishment of the three offices will address the problem.
The CIAA noted in its directive that record keeping in the transport office has become cumbersome due to insufficient number of staff and offices.
The constitutional anti-graft body also recommended the ministry to allow verification of demand letters and visas. It also directed the Labour and Employee Promotion Office to set up a desk to help those people who want to go abroad for employment.
