KATHMANDU, MAY 20
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast partly to generally cloudy conditions throughout the country today, with chances of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in several provinces.
Rain is likely at a few places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, as well as in the hilly regions across the country. One or two places in the remaining provinces may also experience rainfall. There is also a chance of light snowfall in some high hilly and mountainous areas. Gusty winds are expected in parts of Madhesh Province and the Terai regions of Koshi Province.
Tonight, the sky is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, including most hilly regions. The rest of the country will see partly cloudy to mostly fair weather. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, and at a few locations in Madhesh Province and the hilly areas of other provinces. Light snowfall may occur at one or two places in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces.
The current weather pattern is being influenced by a western disturbance, local wind systems, and the partial effect of moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.
In Kathmandu Valley, partly to generally cloudy conditions are expected, with brief rain or thundershowers likely during the day and night. The probability of rainfall in the Valley stands at around 40 percent for both the afternoon and nighttime hours.
