Cold wave sweeping across central Tarai hits normal life

Mahottari, December 11

Normal life in the central Tarai has been affected owing to cold wave since the last few days.

Life in districts including Mahottari, Dhanusha, Sarlahi and Siraha has been adversely affected with the start of the cold snap.

Mostly, students have been affected due to this as they have been compelled to go to school in the morning. The schools in the districts are now running classes in morning shift.

The schools opened after being shut for about two-and-a-half months due to the ongoing Tarai Madhes agitation waged by the United Democratic Madhesi Front.

The agitating parties agreed to allow the schools to run classes only in the morning shift following pressure from civil society and the locals.

Movement of people in Tarai markets has decreased due to increasing cold. Daily wagers have been hit the hardest due to the cold. Sale of warm clothes has increased in local markets.
