College locked up over campus chief appointment

Dhangadi, September 12

Durga Laxmi Campus in Attariya, Kailali, has been padlocked for the past 13 days due to the protest of various student organisations over appointment of the new campus chief.

Prolonged closure has affected hundreds of students studying at the campus.

Students accused the administration of being indifferent about the closure and not taking any initiative to resume classes. “The prolonged closure has badly affected our preparations for the upcoming examinations,” bemoaned Bipana Malla Deuba, an MA first year student.

Earlier, a meeting of the board members of the campus had decided to replace then campus chief Giri Raj Kadayat with Dambar Bahadur Pal. After this, student unions, aligned to various political forces, accused the committee of being politically biased.

However, campus management committee Chairperson Birendra Bhatta said Pal was officially appointed for the post of the campus chief by a nine-member working committee. Of the 13 members, only two had voted against the decision to appoint Pal, said Bhatt.
