Community schools get financial support

Ilam, April 3:

The government has disbursed financial support to all the community schools in the district to support their effort to impart quality education.

District Education Office (DEO), Ilam said a total of Rs 7.9 million was handed over to the schools in the district. Each school got fund ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 150,000 for different purposes, District Education Officer Ek Raj Rai said.

From the disbursed fund scholarships worth Rs 1.1m was distributed among Dalit students. The schools got Rs 6.3m to manage education materials.

The DEO section officer Tanka Gautam said the fund is meant to be spent only to enhance educational standard of the community schools. “We have received reports that the parents of the Dalit students have been misusing the money handed over to the students as scholarships,” he said.

Hari Sanjel of Suryodaya Primary School, Barbote, said they have adopted a policy of giving the Dalit students educational materials than cash as scholarship.
