Nepalgunj, January 2:

The government is going to provide Rs 3 million as preliminary compensation for the victims of Nepalgunj riot soon, assistant chief district officer of Banke Narendra Nath Sharma said today.

A probe committee under the coordination of Resham Acharya, an officer at the District Administration Office, has been formed to provide compensation to the victims. A meeting of the representatives of eight political parties, local government officials and traders formed the committee to probe the damages caused to the victims.

The panel will have representation of the Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industries and the Maoists, Sharma said.

Yesterday, a meeting of representatives of the civil society and local rights organisations had formed a civic panel to probe the incident.
