Congress committed blunder, says Koirala

Rajbiraj, May 23

Nepali Congress central leader Shekhar Koirala today said his party committed a blunder by registering an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Sushila Karki and supporting the CPN-Maoist-Centre mayoral candidate Renu Dahal in Bharatpur Metropolis.

Speaking at his party’s programme in Rajbiraj, Koirala argued that his party’s two blunders had confined his party to second place in the first phase of civic polls.

Koirala commented that NC leadership had lent support to Renu Dahal and registered an impeachment against Chief Justice Karki going against the party’s rank and file sentiment.

Koirala reasoned that the tussle seen between the Parliament and judiciary had led to anarchy in the country. He stressed the need to abide by the doctrine of separation of power by all organs of the state.

Koirala said that his party was behind in the vote counting in the Kathmandu Metropolis because it fielded the wrong candidate for the post of mayor. “The party is trailing behind in vote counting as the party leadership fielded a candidate from the pocket not liked by people,” Koirala accused.

Koirala said his party was ever ready to address the demands raised by Madhesi parties. “NC is ready to address the demands raised by Madhesis and pave the way for Madhesi parties to take part in the polls, but the CPN-UML is hindering constitution amendment,” Koirala alleged. He charged that the UML was hatching a plot to revive monarchy and end the federal set-up by forging an alliance with the RPP.
