Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said today that consensus was being sought to elect a new president.
Speaking at the memorial day of Dil Bahadur Ramtel, the first martyr of the Maoist people's war, and the closing programme of the President's Running Shield competition held at Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality in Gorkha, PM Dahal said he would try to forge consensus till March 9.
"It will be very good if there is consensus on the president by March 9. We are also making effort to that end,'' he said, adding, "I believe that it will be more helpful for the new journey, stability and development.''
He said the parties that had formed an alliance before the election had come together once again. "This is the beginning of a new political journey. We went together with all the political parties to ask for votes from the people. There was a new situation as I became the prime minister in a different way,'' he said. "We are also continuously talking with CPN-UML."
Stating that he had already announced that he would spend the rest of his life for development and prosperity, he said he would make the government people-oriented and productive. He said the country's economy was mired in recession and the government was trying to improve it.
PM Dahal, who is also the chairman of CPN-Maoist Centre, said the government was going to honour the martyrs of people's war and people's movement. "I decided to call the chief secretary this morning and publish the names of all the martyrs of the people's war and people's movement in the gazette as national martyrs," he said.
Prime Minister Dahal, who came in a Nepali Army helicopter, honoured the martyr's family.
He honoured the family and relatives of Dil Bahadur Ramtel's father Sete Ramtel and mother Sarimaya Ramtel. He honoured the family members who lost their lives in the Maoist insurgency with shawls.
PM Dahal also addressed a programme organised in Palungtar. In the programme, Secretary and Chief Whip of CPN-Maoist Centre Hitraj Pandey, President of Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality Bishnu Prasad Bhatt, Vice-president Sanmaya Gurung, former election commissioner Dolakh Bahadur Gurung, among others, urged PM Dahal to give special emphasis to the development of Gorkha Constituency No 2.
Elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Gorkha Constituency No 2, PM Dahal expressed commitment to accord due priority to the development of the district.
