Constitution amendment mere rumour, says UML leader Pokhrel

Okhaldhunga, November 5

CPN-UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel today said constitution amendment was just a rumour.

Addressing a meeting of the party in Okhaldhunga, Pokhrel said the ruling parties had so far failed to bring out a concrete proposal on constitution amendment. “Constitution is a dynamic document which can be amended and revised. But, the agendas for amendment must be clear,” Pokhrel said. He reiterated that constitution amendment was just a political gossip.

Pokhrel argued that constitution amendment, demarcation of new provinces, restructuring of the local bodies and elections at all three levels depended on the political parties’ will.

On a different note, Pokhrel highlighted the need for unity between the people of hill, mountain and plains. “It is absolutely important to forge unity between political parties, ethnic groups and all Nepalis when the country is going through a hard time,” Pokherl added.

He further argued that the Nepali Congress could not go against the impeachment motion tabled at the Parliament against Chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Lokman Singh Karki.
