Constitution by mid-August, says Sitaula
JHAPA, July 22
Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Sitaula has expressed confidence that the constitution will be promulgated by mid-August.
Speaking at a programme organised to mark the 33rd BP Memorial Day in Chandragadi of Jhapa on Wednesday, the NC leader and coordinator of Statute Drafting Committee said, “Now that we’ve finished collecting feedback, statute promulgation won’t go beyond mid-August.”
He dismissed people’s doubts that political parties would override people’s feedback and write a constitution to serve their own vested interests. He said, “Nothing of that sort will happen as the government is committed to providing the people an all-acceptable federal democratic constitution by mid-August. People’s valuable inputs during feedback collection will be certainly incorporated in the final statute.”
He hailed the constitution-in-the-making for prioritising the policy of democratic socialist economy and expressed joy that his party was spearheading the historic statute-drafting task through the Constituent Assembly.
