Constitution ensures everyone’s rights: Rai
Kathmandu, March 6
Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai, has said that the new constitution has guaranteed rights of all communities.
Inaugurating the ninth national convention of Kirat Rai Yoyokkha here today, Minister Rai said Nepali people themselves promulgated their new constitution after various political movements in the country.
Stressing the need to protect languages and cultures of all communities, he said, “We have now stood at the place where we can ensure people’s rights.
We will establish identity of all keeping intact the freedom, unity, autonomy and dignity of the country. The communities, deprived of rights would get it through amendment of the new constitution gradually.”
The Communications Minister further said that indigenous nationalities should move ahead themselves to get the rights to be facilitated by different commissions to be formed very soon.
Similarly, former Minister Gopal Kirati, lawmaker RK Khumbu Rai and others said that Yoyokkha has made significant contributions to the protection of Kirat culture.
Chairperson of Kirat Rai Yoyokkha, Yashoda Rai, said that the organisation was active for the rights and welfare of Kirat community.
Some 500 representatives from 25 districts of the country and from 15 other countries are participating in the three-day convention.
