Constitution ensures rights, covers all groups: Sitaula
Jhapa, September 24
Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula today claimed that there was no meaning of the ongoing Madhes-based forces’ agitation, without national sovereignty.
Speaking at a function organised to unveil the full-size statue of late veteran Nepali Congress leader BP Koirala at Bhadrapur, Chandragadhi today, Sitaula, who was also the coordinator of Constitution Drafting Committee, accused the agitating Madhes and Tarai-based party leaders and their activists of indulging in meaningless agitation.
Sitaula claimed that the recently promulgated constitution was a common legal document of women, Madhesis, Dalits and indigenous nationalities and it had ensured rights and equal opportunities to all.
“It is not a constitution of the three major parties as accused by some disgruntled parties. Rather, it is a constitution of all Nepalis. If anybody or community feels that their rights are not incorporated in it, they can sit at the negotiation table peacefully for amendment of the statute,” he said.
He demanded an end to riotsm violence, arson, vandalism and killings.
He clarified that the new constitution was among the best and most inclusive one, which has ensured rights and opportunities of all communities.
“This statute is the outcome of late BP Koirala’s vision some seven decades ago. However, it may
not satisfy some regional leaders and their activists, he argued.
India and China are two closest and most intimate neighbours and we should take their comments positively,” said Sitaula. He urged all the people not to run after propaganda but to look for truth instead.
