‘Constitution guarantees peaceful political activities’

Panchthar, August 24

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation Minister Yogesh Bhattarai has said that the government can’t prevent anyone or any organisation from conducting political activities just because they hold different views.

Speaking at the third District Assembly organised in Panchthar today, Minister Bhattarai cited the constitution of the nation and said the government was not in a position to prevent anyone from forming an organisation and launching political activities.

“The government can’t go against the constitution. However, no one has liberty to disturb peace of society,” he said, referring to Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal.

“In fact, the government is ready to create conducive environment for talks with all political forces if they are ready to sit for dialogue by shunning acts of violence and extortion,” he said, adding that the government was ready to move ahead by cooperating with all stakeholders.

The minister also called for cooperation from the locals and other stakeholders to implement major development and tourism-related projects such as Tamor Hydropower Project, Tamor Corridor and South-North Highway.
