Construction of female-inmate-block at Tanahu Prison gains momentum

DAMAULI: Construction works of female-inmate-block at Tanahu prison have started with an investment of Nrs 80 million, Prison Chief Tirtha Nath Khanal said.

According to Khanal, the construction gained momentum after mid-February, 2018 and the damp proof course foundations have been labeled.

Moreover, CEO Rishi Ram Adhikari of Rishi Shakti Parajuli Home Construction Joint Ventures, the company overseeing the block’s construction said that the building will be ready in 18 months.

The female prisoner’s wing including police barrack and office building will be spread over an area of 2 ropanis. Likewise, the block would house 50 female prisoners, Chief Khanal informed.

The construction is being carried out with assistance  from Department of Urban Development & Building Construction Division Office, Gorkha.

As of now the female convicts facing jail terms are sent to Kaski and Gorkha prisons due to lack of a female block in Tanahu prison.

The Tanahu Prison with a capacity of 25 inmates has been housing 106 male prisoners off late.
