Construction of Postal Highway gaining momentum in Saptari

SAPTARI: Acceleration in the construction of Postal Highway, which is considered the lifeline of Tarai, has brought happiness among the locals in Saptari district. The highway which goes through the southern region of the district is expected to contribute in the overall economic activities and uplift the living standard of the people.

“Due to lack of proper road facilities, we have been facing many difficulties. Many patients have died on the way for not being able to reach hospital on time. With completion of this highway, at least people will get treatment on time,” said Bhup Narayan Yadav, resident of Belhi Chapena Rural Municipality.

“Until now we have been forced to sell our agricultural products at low prices in local markets, but after the highway is completed we can take them to bigger markets for sale, which will obviously uplift the financial situation of farmers,” said one of the farmers Shyam Prakash Yadav.

Saptari Chambers of Commerce and Industries Chairman Arun Kumar Pradhan expressed his hope of Postal Highway contributing in overall economic development of the district.

A total of 40 kilometres road is being constructed as part of the Postal Highway in the district with an investment of two billion rupees.

The construction work is divided into two sections including Kanchanpur-Rajbiraj and Rajbiraj-Balan River. The first section is being built by Bajraguru Construction and the latter is being constructed by Rautaha Construction with the target of completing them within two years, according to Postal Highway Construction Project Itahari Chief Shailendra Mani Tripathi, who also further informed that total width of the road will be 30 metres.
