Contracts for development projects delayed

Kavre, May 5

Ten months of the current fiscal have already gone and still a large number of projects that were approved by the district council are yet to enter into the contract phase in Kavre.

Earlier, the 23rd district council of Kavre had approved 739 projects in the district and allocated budget for the same this fiscal.

But long after the approval of the budget, the DDC is yet to complete the process for awarding contracts for a majority of the projects.

Though the council had allocated budget for 37 road projects, contracts for only eight roads have been inked so far.

The delay has been mainly attributed to a dispute in the formation of the consumers committee and the inability to decide on the part of the District Development Committee itself with regard to the allocation of the budget.

Similarly, while the DDC is yet to prepare the contract for 10 projects under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, not a single contract for projects under the government’s sports development programme has been awarded till date.

Likewise, contracts for dozens of other projects related to drinking water and sanitation, building and urban development, electrification and infrastructure related projects are yet to be awarded.
