‘Convert development regions into provinces’

Dhangadhi, December 1

Nepali Congress central leader Sujata Koirala today proposed that the five development regions be developed as five provinces as the leaders had failed to forge consensus on boundary delineation of the new seven provinces even after several rounds of talks.

Speaking to mediapersons at Dhangadi Airport today, Koirala said the five federal states would be better in terms of topography and natural resources available in the country. “In order to settle the prolonged Tarai agitation also, the five-province modality would be the best option. If we adopt this federal structure, it will not be necessary to split the existing districts and zones,” said Koirala.

She urged the agitating Tarai-centric forces to sit for a conclusive dialogue to provide relief to the country from the prolonged stalemate. She also appealed to the government to be more serious about the protracted agitation in the country.

Koirala advised the leaders of all parties to rise above party interest as the country was facing a hard time.
