Mahottari, November 7:

Police constable Dinesh Shah, a resident of Simra VDC in Sarlahi district, was killed and another person seriously injured in an encounter with armed dacoits at Surahiya Tole of Nainhi VDC in Mahottari district last night.

The encounter occurred after a police team, acting on a tip-off, reached the locality while dacoity was going on in the houses of Bikau Ansari, Tahir Ansari and Ziyauddin Ansari at Surahiya. SP Keshav Adhikari said the gang of 20 armed dacoits looted property worth lakhs of rupees. They also injured several women while snatching nose-rings, earrings and necklaces from them.

Meanwhile, Zahir Ansari of Laxminiya in Bairagiya VDC was robbed of Rs 35,000 in cash and ornaments by an armed gang that broke into his house on Wednesday night.
