Cop tortures subordinate in a drunken stupor

SANKHUWASABHA: It has been revealed that Amir Yadav, sub-inspector at Tumlingtar police post, allegedly tortured his junior recently.

Yadav, who is also the in-charge of the post set up for the security of the local airport, had badly beat up and tormented constable Rewat Giri with the help of another policeman Surya Kiran Adhikari of Khandbari-12 when all of them were drunk. Giri originally hails from Gauradaha of Jhapa district.

In the recommendation of Yadav, he was also tortured for ten days in the custody of District Police Office for “investigation”. The incident came to light after the injured policeman was taken to hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses, however, claimed that the Giri was thrashed over a brawl that ensued after all the policemen in the post drank alcohol during night. Yadav had allegedly ordered to shoot Giri saying that he was ready to face the consequences even by selling his private property. Giri has sustained injuries on his face and other body parts as well. “I can neither see properly nor move my body,” Giri said.

After initial treatment, Giri was suddenly taken to Zonal Police Office, Dharan, today after the local journalists and human right activists knew the incident. Lila Prasad Shrestha, INSEC representative, said that though Giri was innocent, an action was already initiated due to the pressure of the senior police officers. “If we closely look into the incident, Giri is innocent while Yadav is guilty.” According to him, Giri was also threatened to be sacked.

Prakash Sharma, inspector, DPO, said that Giri was taken to Dharan as he was called from the Zonal Police Office. “Giri is found guilty in our investigation,” he said.
