Cops clueless on Khotang ‘murders’

Khotang, January 12

Khotang police have so far failed to make any breakthrough in the killings of Rita Tamang, Gyanimaya Bishwokarma and Devi BK.

Rita, 17, of  Lichkiramche, Khotehang Rural Municipality-9, who used to work at a hotel in Simpani bazaar, was found dead on a cliff near Kusheaushi forest on February 8 last year. Police suspect she was raped before being killed.

Likewise, 57-year-old Gyanimaya of Mahadevsthan, Halesi Tuwachung-7 was killed on May 30 while she was returning home after collecting fodder from a forest nearby. The crime site is about five minutes’ walk from the area police office.

Similarly, Devi, 37, of Diplung in Jantedhunga Rural Municipality-6 was found dead on July 19. She was returning home from her maternal home. Her body with barely any clothes below the waist and bleeding head was found about 500 metres below the road the next day.

Halesi Tuwachung Municipality’s Deputy Mayor Bimala Rai said the sluggish police investigation had fuelled doubts on the intent of the probe. He also said that the unsolved cases had spread terror among the local people.

DSP Lok Darshan Thapa at the district police office informed that police were probing the cases.
