‘Cops coerced me to file FIR’

Kathmandu, October 20

In a dramatic twist, Roshani Shahi, who had filed an FIR accusing former speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara of attempt to rape, filed an application at Kathmandu District Court, stating that police had coerced her into filing the case.

This is the second time Shahi has retracted her statement.

Registrar of Kathmandu District Court Ananda Prasad Shrestha said Shahi had come to the court with her application just after Mahara was presented there. The court ordered the police to attach her application with Mahara’s case file.

Shahi’s first retraction of statement came a day after Hamrakura.com reported her allegation of rape against Mahara. A day after Hamrakura.com published a report of her accusation, Shahi told another online portal that Mahara, who was a father figure for her, was innocent and what Hamrakura.com published was false.

Shahi, in a video interview with Hamrakura.com on September 30, had said Mahara had visited her without approval, forced her to drink whisky he had brought and thrashed her before raping her.

Shahi had, on October 4, visited the Metropolitan Police Circle at Baneshwor and filed an FIR against Mahara stating that he had attempted to rape her.

But, in a complete U-turn, Shahi today claimed that police forced her to file a case against Mahara.
