RAUTAHAT: Family members of a girl, who was beaten to death by her neighbours, are being harassed by police personnel. Twelve-year-old Kanchan, the daughter of Charan Dev Mandal of Bhalohiya VDC-3, was killed when her neighbours Shankar Das, Bharat Das and their family members thrashed her mercilessly on Wednesday.

Sub-inspector at Area Police Office Gangapipara Pramod Yadav today thrashed 55-year-old Kantidevi, Kanchan’s mother, on the pretext of raiding their house, local Siyalal Mahato said. Mahato also claimed that the police has been politicising the case supporting the accused persons. He said, “The accused fled from police custody due to the nexus between police personnel and the accused.”

Saying that his sister had breathed her last while being rushed to the hospital, Sikander, brother of the dead, said, “My sister was injured but the police detained me and thrashed whole night in the pretext of investigation due to which I could not take her to the hospital.” He added, “She might have survived if she was taken to hospital in time.”
