Cops injured in clash with fuel smugglers

Four police personnel were injured in a clash with fuel smugglers at Pandepur of Jagarnathpur Rural Municipality, Parsa, today.

Parsa District Police Office said the incident occurred after police tried to stop local smugglers from taking diesel in jerrycans in motorcycles towards the Indian border market from Pandepur today.

SP Rewati Dhakal said the cops were injured after a group of smugglers and locals attacked them.

The injured have been identified as ASI Bishnu Dev Yadav and Jayasun Mahato, head constable Prem Bahadur Lama and police constable Arjun Chaudhary of Pandepur Police Post. SP Dhakal said Yadav, Mahato and Lama were receiving treatment in Birgunj-based National Medical College while a critically injured Chaudhary was being treated in Neuro Hospital, Birgunj. Chaudhary received a deep cut in his head. SP Dhakal clarified that the smugglers did not take weapons from the police.

SP Dhakal said the smugglers fled to India after the clash. He informed that he had been coordinating with Indian Security Officials to take the smugglers under control.
