Council of ministers to discuss Kavre quake victims’ issues

Kavre, December 19

The council of ministers is all set to discuss on the issue related to thousands of earthquake victims of Kavre that have been excluded from list of people entitled to the government-pledged reconstruction grant.

As per data, around 12,000 quake victims of Bhumlutar and Phalante VDCs in the Koshipurwa area of the district are likely to be deprived of the state-pledged housing grant due to lack of mandatory land ownership certificate.

The concerned households had to forgo contract signing for the government-pledged reconstruction grant due to the same reason.

“The issue will now be discussed in the council of ministers with the initiative of National Reconstruction Authority Chief Sushil Gyawali. Besides, we have also been discussing about the possibility of moving ahead as per the land registration procedure,” said District Land Rights Forum Kavre Chairperson Ram Bahadur Tamang.

Earlier, the forum had submitted a memorandum to Kavre District Administration, urging the latter not to deprive the victims without land ownership certificates of the housing grant that they are entitled to. “It’s not fair on the part of the state to ditch them just because they don’t have the documents,” Tamang said.

It is learnt that most of those who missed out on the list of grant receivers are landless squatters as well as those residing on government land and on guthi land.
