CPN-MC reviews poll results

Kathmandu, July 11

The CPN-Maoist Centre today reviewed the results of the first and second phase of local level elections held on May 14 and June 28 in 617 local levels of Provinces 1,3,4,5, 6 and 7.

A meeting of the CPN-MC headquarterheld at party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence in Lazimpat acknowledged the weaknesses responsible for election results, according to CPN-MC leader Mani Thapa.

Out of 617 local levels, where local level polls were held in the first and second phase of elections, the party’s candidates won only 84 top posts.

The meeting concluded that lack of attention towards strengthening the party’s organisational structure after unification, weakness in selection of candidates, lack of commitment to get the party’s candidates elected and clash of interest of the different factions of the party were  some of the reasons that gave the party third position in the elections.

“We could not even capitalise on the political gains made by the government under the leadership of our party,” Thapa quoted Chairman Dahal as saying in the meeting.

He said the party also did not pay proper attention to check the misuse of money and employees by the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML in the elections.
