KATHMANDU, AUGUST 20
The CPN-Maoist Centre today nominated office bearers for the party's special convention to be convened later.
According to CPN-MC Spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the party's Standing Committee nominated party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal as chief of the office bearers.
The party's top body named Narayan Kaji Shrestha as senior vice-chair, Krishna Bahadur Mahara as vice-chair, and Dev Prasad Gurung as the party's general secretary.
The party nominated Giri Raj Mani Pokharel, Barshaman Pun, Haribol Gajurel, Janardan Sharma, Pampha Bhusal and Matrika Prasad Yadav as deputy general secretaries.
The Standing Committee nominated Dinanath Sharma, Chakrapani Khanal, Lilamani Pokharel, Devendra Paudel, Hitman Shakya, Hitraj Pandey, Dilaram Acharya, Ram Karki as secretaries and Shree Ram Dhakal as treasurer.
Mahara said his party wanted to hold a special party convention to develop political ideology and streamline the party organisation.
He said the nomination of office bearers was made keeping in mind the upcoming elections and it was a balanced decision.
CPN-MC nominated office bearers almost eight months after the party's convention.
Party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal had faced difficulty in recommending names of party leaders as multiple leaders were laying claims to various party posts.
Barshaman Pun and Janardan Sharma were strong candidates for the party's general secretary, but Dahal recommended Gurung for the post. Dahal chose Gurung for the post mainly because he might have thought his nomination could help him pacify other influential leaders who were eyeing the post.
The party also nominated a 17-member manifesto drafting committee under Vice-chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha. Other members in the committee are Dev Gurung, Barshaman Pun, Janardan Sharma, Giriraj Mani Pokharel, Lilamani Pokharel, Shakti Basnet, Ganesh Shah, Parshuram Ramtel, Amrita Thapa, Hari Roka, Zakir Hussain, Parshuram Tamang, Krishna Chaudhary, Bhima Dhungana and Jagat Simkhada.
Mahara said the ruling alliance was preparing to draft a common election manifesto but his party decided to draft the party's own manifesto.
