CPN-UML apathetic towards quake victims’ plight: Deuba
Kavre, July 2
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday accused the ruling CPN-UML of being indifferent towards the plight of the earthquake victims.
He claimed that the CPN-UML-led government would not be able to distribute reconstruction grant to the quake victims any time soon. Laying the foundation stone of the party office at Kavre’s Banepa, Deuba said the government had not consulted the main opposition party about relief distribution to the victims.
Deuba directed the party cadres to stage rallies and protest programmes in support of the quake victims in the district. He accused the CPN-UML of not including the names of those quake victims who are aligned to NC for the reconstruction grant.
Stating that UML had not built a single house even after allocating Rs 750 million for the reconstruction, Deuba assured that his party would rehabilitate the quake victims at any cost. “The NC is working wholeheartedly to ensure relief to the earthquake survivors,” Deuba added.
He further flayed the government’s decision to hold local polls in December.
“How can the government hold the polls while the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission has been given February’s deadline to submit its report ?” asked Deuba. He, however, said that his party was not against holding the local polls.
