UML cadres injured in Bajura clash

Bajura, June 13

At least six persons including two women were injured yesterday night after a clash erupted between cadres of CPN-UML and Nepali Congress in Gaumul Rural Municipality, Bajura.

UML claimed all the injured were party cadres. They have been identified as Paras Rokaya, Tanka Rokaya, Santosh Rokaya, Subash Rokaya, Sushila Rokaya and one unidentified woman.

Santosh Rokaya is in critical condition and has been referred to a Nepalgunj- based health facility after primary treatment in the health office. Santosh received a deep cut with a khukuri on his head.  Sushila and another woman were also referred to a Martadi-based health  facility for further treatmnet.

The UML chair candidate for Gaumul Rural Municipality Hari Rokaya said that a group led by NC ward chair candidate Dhan Bahadur Rokaya had attacked the UML cadres at night.

The dispute erupted after NC cadres forcefully took over a microphone from Prakash Rokaya’s hand during election campaigning. The dispute ran high after NC cadres entered the UML ward chair candidate Ganesh Rokaya’s house at night.

NC cadres attacked more than six UML cadres from Manakot Village at around 10:00pm, according to Ganesh.

The NC chairman candidate at Gaumul Rural Municipality Dev Bahadur Rokaya said a personal issue should not be politicised. “It was completely a domestic dispute rather than political,” he added.

Meanwhile, both parties have filed complaints separately with the police.

DSP Dal Bahadur Bogati of District Police Office, Bajura informed that FIRs against 48 persons from both parties had been filed. DSP Bogati said a police team was deployed to investigate the reality.
