Oli calls for timely parliamentary polls

Kathmandu, July 28

CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli today said parliamentary polls should be held before holding the provincial elections.

Talking to mediapersons following his return from a week-long visit to Tibet, the former prime minister warned of difficulty in the implementation of constitution if the parliamentary polls could not be held on time. As per the constitutional deadline, all three levels of elections should be held before January 21, 2018. He said discussion on the issue of constitution amendment was possible only after parliamentary and provincial elections.

He said Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal should not boycott the elections. The party should not devalue democratic practices, he added. During his week-long trip to Tibet, he had visited the Shigatse and Kailash Mansorobar and also held meetings with officials of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Oli also stated that the Chinese side had expressed willingness to implement agreements, including those related to transit and transport.
