Oli seeks pact points in writing

Kathmandu, April 23

CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli told Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal that his party would put forth its take on  the agreement reached between the government and the Federal Alliance  only after his party got the points of agreement in writing.

Talking to mediapersons after a meeting with the PM, Oli said the PM wanted UML to support the constitution amendment bill and other political moves mentioned in the agreement. “I told the PM that UML will decide whether to support or oppose the agreement only after knowing the contents of the agreement and the rationale behind it,” Oli added.

“I told the PM that it would be a violation of the election code of conduct if the government brought budget ahead of the second phase of elections,” Oli said. “I doubt if the government really wants election because the proposed date for the second phase of elections falls  in the  middle of paddy plantation season in the Tarai,”  Oli said after his meeting with the PM.

Oli also objected to the government’s proposal to amend Article 274 of the constitution. “On the one hand, you have withdrawn the previous proposal to revise provincial boundaries; while on the other, you proposed the same thing albeit in an indirect way,” a source quoted Oli as telling the PM.

Meanwhile, Parliament meeting scheduled for today was adjourned until 1:00pm tomorrow.
