UML leaders tell UDMF to rectify its diktat

Rajbiraj, December 5

CPN-UML central member and Saptari In-charge Sumanraj Pyakurel has warned the United Democratic Madhesi Front to rectify its decision and do soul-searching over its diktat to its leaders and cadres against the UML.

Earlier, UDMF, at a meeting yesterday had issued a ruling to its leaders and cadres, asking them to prevent and disrupt all CPN-UML programmes across the district unless the latter changed its outlook and came clear on Madhes issues.

Speaking at a press conference organised at the party office in Rajbiraj today, the UML leader decried the directive and said, “Such a decree of the so-called Messiah of the Madhes is unfortunate. We condemn it.”

Portraying UML as a national party, the leader argued that such an irresponsible step of UDMF only serves to lead to a political confrontation. “Ours is a party that has long fought for the nation. How can a start-up, a party just founded yesterday, dare to stop the grand old party reaching out to speak to voters, supporters and well-wishers?” he asked.

Further reiterating his call to the UDMF to rectify its decision, the UML leader also expressed dissatisfaction at how UML has been wrongly portrayed as anti-Madhes. “How can a party that won the hearts of millions of Madhesis and got 40 seats in the Parliament be against Madhes?” he asked.
