UML leads vote count, NC follows

The results that have been trickling in show that the CPN-UML has taken the lead in the first phase local elections that were held in select provinces.

The party started its winning streak from Chame Rural Municipality, in Manang, a district in the Himalayan region. Here, UML candidate for hief of the rural municipality Lokendra Bahadur Ghale, received 214 votes against 172 votes received by his rival Anita Lama of Nepali Congress. NC’s Munindrajung Gurung was elected vice-chairperson.

Besides, UML candidates Kanchha Ghale and Mingkhu Gurung have been elected as the chairperson and vice-chairperson respectively from Nesyang Rural Municipality.

In Mustang, while independent candidate Raju Bista scooped  the post of chairperson of Dalome Rural Municipality, UML candidate Dhoka Gurung was elected here for the post of vice chairperson.

From Lomanthang Rural Municipality, NC candidates Subarna Kumar Bista and Pema Dolma Bista have secured victory for the posts of chairperson and vice-chairperson respectively.

While UML candidate Angat Rana was elected chairperson for Kaike Rural Municipality in Dolpa, Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s Kunjan Budha made it to the post of vice-chairperson here. In Se Phoksundo Rural Municipality, UML candidate Tasi Tundup Gurung was elected unopposed for the top post.

In Jumla, however, CPN-MC candidate Hari Bahadur Bhandari secured his victory for the post of chairperson from Guthichaur Rural Municipality.

Meanwhile, the CPN-MC panel was elected in three wards of Salyan. CPN-MC panels have scooped victory in Ward 1 and 2 of Dhorchaur Rural Municipality and Ward 1 of Kapurkot Rural Municipality. Similarly, CPN-MC’s Gyan Bahadur Lama was elected ward chairperson in Kavre’s Khanikhola Rural Municipality, Ward 1. In Dolakha, CPN-MC and NC have scraped victory in two and one ward of Baiteshwor Rural Municipality and Jiri Municipality.

In Dhading, UML panels were elected from Dhunibesi Municipality, Ward 1 and 2.

CPN-MC candidate Chandra Bahadur Palli was elected ward chairperson from Netrawati Rural Municipality, ward 1. In Jajarkot, while the CPN-MC ward chair candidate has claimed victory in Ward 6 of Kushe Rural Municipality, Nepali Congress candidates have clinched victory for the post of ward chairperson from wards 7, 8 and 9. CPN-MC and UML panels were elected from Bheri Municipality Ward 1 and 13 respectively.
