UML wins Ghorahi Sub-metropolis

Dang, July 3

As the vote count in the sub-metropolises of Provinces 1, 5 and 7 continues, Ghorahi Sub-metropolis has been the first to declare the election results of the second round of civic elections this evening.

CPN-UML candidate Narulal Chaudhary sealed victory for the mayoral post here by securing 22,030 votes against his closest contender Bhup Bahadur Dangi, who garnered 17,484 votes. The CPN-Maoist Centre mayoral candidate garnered 12,082 votes.

Similarly, UML’s Sita Neupane was elected as deputy mayor with 20,792 votes, against 17,603 votes of her nearest contender NC’s Puspa Shrestha.

Born in the Tharu community as the only son of Bilara and Mandhari Chaudhary in 1967, the mayor-elect has six sisters. Though he was born in a farmer’s family, he has completed master’s level education and has assumed a number of party responsibilities, including that of district committee chairperson of Dang.

Narulal had also been elected with majority in the last local elections. He had also served a couple of years in the teaching field before joining politics.

Deputy-mayor-elect Neupane, who is one year junior to the mayor-elect, was born in 1968 and started politics from her student life. She has an experience of working for the party by assuming various party positions until very recently as the party district committee secretary for the second term.

Meanwhile, UML is leading in another sub-metropolis, Tulsipur of Dang, and is leading in the vote-count in Dharan and Itahari of Sunsari; and Butwal Sub-metropolis, Rupandehi.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party is leading in Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis and NC in Biratnagar Metropolis and Dhangadi Sub-metropolis.
