UML youth leader shot dead in Rupandehi

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the CPN-UML-aligned Youth Association Nepal's Rupandehi chapter, Durga Tiwari, was shot dead by an unidentified group of people at Devdaha Municipality-8 of Rupandehi, on Monday.

A local journalist from Butwal told THT Online over phone that Tiwari was shot at the left chest at around 3:30 pm today.

After being shot, Tiwari was critically injured and taken to the Devdaha Medical College, where he breathed his last minutes after the arrival.

Police Inspector Pradeep DC at the Butwal-based Ward Police Office also confirmed the death during his treatment, according to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

Tiwari was riding on his motorbike along the local Boliya Marga, around 300 metres south of the East-West Highway when a motorcycle-borne gang targeted him, a preliminary police investigation suggested.

Police also said Tiwari, also a local brick entrepreneur, had faced few physical attacks earlier as well.

Police had arrested eight persons for their alleged involvement in an attack against Tiwari around six months ago, according to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

The alleged mastermind Manoj Rana Magar, however, is on the run.

Police suspected that the same gang might be involved in the fatal attack today.

Police are searching for the shooters.
