Curfew imposed in Gaur for fourth day
Rautahat, December 23
District Administration Office Rautahat clamped a curfew from 12:00 noon till 4:00pm at Rautahat headquarters Gaur on the fourth consecutive day today.
Gaur remained relatively peaceful and deserted today. Security personnel had cautioned locals not to come out of their homes during curfew time.
DAO had slapped the curfew order at headquarters banning people’s movement and warned locals not to resort to sloganeering, defying the curfew.
Rautahat DAO had started imposing curfew after tension ran high following the death of 17-year-old schoolboy Sekh Tawarej in police firing last Sunday.
DSP Rajendra Pokhrel said that normalcy had returned after the curfew was lifted at 4:00pm. “Now, the situation is normal. Thus, there is no need to clamp curfew,” DSP Pokhrel added.
Meanwhile, Tawarej’s final rites were performed as per Muslim tradition at his home village today. Tarai Madhes Democratic Party General Secretary Jitendra Sonal vented ire at the government for suppressing the Madhes agitation with bullets.
Sonal said they would not let the sacrifice of martyrs go to waste. He held that the government was sacred of the success of the agitation.
He urged all to lend support to the agitation as it was gaining success.
