KATHMANDU, MAY 26
Cyclonic storm Yaas that made a landfall in parts of India today and is now in the process of 'weakening', will impact the weather in Nepal till Saturday, Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) said.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, from the data based on 12:30 hours IST, the 'Very Severe' Cyclonic Storm weakened into a 'Severe' Cyclonic Storm and lays centred over north coastal Odisha near latitude 21.45°n and longitude 86.8°e, about 15 km west-southwest of Balasore.
The Cyclonic Storm has a current intensity of 110-120 kmph near centre and is gusting to 130 kmph.
From the past movement, it is likely to move north-northwestwards and weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm during next six hours.
According to the forecast made by MFD, weather in Province 1, 2, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali Provinces will be generally cloudy today and partially cloudy in Sudur Pashchim Province.
Few places of Province 1, 2, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini Provinces and one/two places of remaining provinces may receive light to medium rain while one /two places of Province 1 might receive heavy rainfall today.
Similarly, on Thursday and Friday, few places of Province 1, 2, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces may receive heavy rainfall while the Tarai region of these provinces may receive gusty windstorm along with very heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, there is a probability of light to medium rain across the country and heavy rainfall in few places of Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces.
There is also a probability of light to medium snowfall and rainfall in high hilly and mountainous region of Province 1, Gandaki and Bagmati Provinces until Friday.
Since this is a season of rainfall and thunderstorm itself, the Division has requested those residing in the affected areas to take extra caution and has recommended restriction on mountaineering activities in high mountainous region.
